1.0 Product Overview
What it is: A full synthetic polymer paint sealant. Despite the name, this product contains no actual wax — it is a pure synthetic sealant. Contains no unnecessary fillers, colors, or fragrances. The formula is thinner than traditional wax products; this is normal and indicates concentrated polymer content.
Primary use: A pad-applied, buff-off paint sealant that provides long-lasting UV protection and hydrophobic water beading. Designed as a durable base layer applied 1–2 times per year. Can also be used as a stand-alone sealant or as a base layer underneath CAR GUYS Hybrid Wax for maximum longevity and shine. Compatible with hand application and machine application (orbital polisher with finishing pad). Can also be applied to rims for brake dust protection, though ceramic coatings are the gold standard for this application.
Yield: Approximately 3–5 full vehicle applications per 8 oz bottle when applied thinly as recommended (estimated; actual yield depends on vehicle size and application thickness).
Longevity: Up to 1 year of durability and protection when applied correctly. Water beading lasts approximately 6–8 months. Results depend on washing regimen and climate. For daily drivers, reapplication every 6 months is recommended (once before winter, once before summer).
Shelf life: 1.5 to 2 years when stored properly. Store upright in a cool, dry place between 50–60°F (10–16°C). Keep above freezing and out of direct sunlight.
Chemical base: A water-based (63–80% water), 0% VOC formula containing synthetic isoparaffinic hydrocarbon (10–20%), amino-alkoxy dimethylsiloxane (8–12%), polydimethylsiloxane (2–5%), and acrylic polymer (<1%). Contains no abrasives. pH: 7. Note: This product is classified as DANGEROUS per GHS — Aspiration Toxicity Category 1 (may be fatal if swallowed or enters airways), Eye Irritation Category 2, Skin Irritation Category 2. Keep out of reach of children. California Prop 65 Carcinogen Warning applies.
Kit Contents (8 oz Kit):
1x CAR GUYS Liquid Wax — 8 oz
1x CAR GUYS Professional Series 420 GSM Edgeless Microfiber Towel
1x CAR GUYS Car Wax Applicator Pad — satin microfiber surface, velvet grip, foam core, plastic water barrier
2.0 Application Instructions
Prep (First-Time Use): Remove all existing wax, sealant, or polish from the vehicle. The most effective method is to clay bar the vehicle using dish soap (e.g., Dawn) mixed with water as clay lube. If a clay bar is not available, wash the vehicle thoroughly with dish soap and water to strip old coatings. Dry thoroughly before applying. Liquid Wax must be the very first product applied to bare paint (the only exception is if the vehicle has a ceramic coating — apply Liquid Wax over the ceramic).
Prep (Routine Use): Wash the vehicle with dish soap and water to remove Hybrid Wax or any toppers. Dry thoroughly. A clay bar is optional but recommended for best results. Regular car wash soap is acceptable if no topper was applied between coats.
Apply: Shake the bottle very well (hold upside down while shaking to recombine any separated polymers). Ensure all surfaces are clean and completely dry. Using the included applicator, apply 1–2 lines of product onto the pad per section. Apply a very thin, even layer onto the surface using small overlapping circles for full coverage. Straight-line passes are also acceptable, but overlapping circles are the recommended method for maximum surface coverage. Avoid all raw/unfinished plastic, rubber, trim, and decals — maintain 1–2 inches of clearance from these surfaces. If accidental contact occurs, wipe off immediately before the product dries.
Dry/Haze: Allow the product to sit for a minimum of 30 minutes until it dries to a haze. In hotter conditions, reduce wait time as the product will dry faster. For best results, wait longer than 30 minutes — the longer the product sits before buffing, the better the results.
Buff: Using a clean microfiber towel, buff off all residue until the surface is clear and glossy.
Cure: After buffing, the product requires a minimum of 6 hours to fully harden and cure. Do not allow any moisture (rain, dew, sprinklers, etc.) to contact the vehicle during the curing period. The longer the cure time, the deeper the shine and greater the durability.
If streaking/residue occurs: Try spraying a very small amount of CAR GUYS Hybrid Wax over the streaked area and buffing with a clean, dry microfiber towel. If streaks persist, use a clay bar with dish soap and water to fully remove the sealant from the affected area, then reapply.
For multiple layers: Wait a minimum of 6 hours between coats to allow full curing. A second coat can be applied sooner, but performance improves with a full cure. Most vehicles need only 2 layers maximum. Some users wait a full day between coats for optimal results.
Application coverage: Apply to the entire vehicle (or at minimum 1/4 to 1/2 of the vehicle at a time). Applying to one small panel at a time is impractical due to the 30-minute minimum wait per section.
Tool care: Clean the Car Wax Applicator Pad immediately after each use — Liquid Wax is a polymer sealant that cures and hardens, and will bond to the microfiber surface if left to dry. See the Accessory Care Guide for full cleaning and storage instructions for all CAR GUYS towels and applicators.
Optional final step: After curing, apply CAR GUYS Hybrid Wax as a topper for enhanced shine and extended protection. Hybrid Wax can then be reapplied after every wash to maintain and extend the life of the Liquid Wax base layer.
3.0 Safe Surfaces & Warnings
Safe on: Paint (all coated/clear-coated finishes including coated matte, satin, and denim), glass, windows, rims, chrome, metals, aluminum, glossy/painted plastic parts (headlights, taillights — must be in good condition with no peeling or damage), clear bra/PPF (all brands including 3M and Xpel), fiberglass, carbon fiber, ceramic coatings, single-stage paint. Also safe for household use: stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and similar hard surfaces. Also safe for boats, RVs, and motorcycles.
Do NOT use on:
Raw/unfinished plastic (leaves white residue that is difficult to remove).
Raw/unfinished rubber (same white residue risk).
Decals (may cause discoloration or residue).
Uncoated matte finishes (product is designed for sealed/coated surfaces only).
Window trim and plastic bumpers that are unfinished, raw, black, or grey colored (highest risk for white residue).
Fabric or upholstery (not designed for porous soft surfaces).
Existing wax, sealant, or polish (Liquid Wax will degrade at the same rate as the underlying product, eliminating its longevity advantage — strip first).
Fresh paint within 30 days of a paint job unless the body shop confirms infrared curing (the sealant will seal the paint and prevent curing gases from releasing, which may cause paint defects).
Application temperature: Ideal range is 60°F–85°F. Minimum recommended is 45°F–55°F. If applying above 85°F, shorten the 30-minute drying time as the product will dry faster. If applied thinly as recommended, the product is easy to remove regardless of temperature. No risk of vehicle damage at any temperature — only performance may be reduced at extremes.
Sun exposure: Best results when applied in shade or inside a cool garage. Can be applied outdoors in sunlight ONLY if the surface is cool enough to comfortably rest a bare hand on the paint. Never apply to a hot surface.
Dilution: Ready to use. Do not dilute.
Storage: Store upright in a cool, dry place (ideally 50–60°F / 10–16°C). Keep above freezing and out of direct sunlight. Keep container tightly closed. Do not leave bottle inside a vehicle or in direct sunlight for extended periods, as pressure buildup or leaks may occur. Product separation is normal — shake upside down before each use to recombine.
⚠ SDS / Hazard Notes:
Hazard summary: DANGER — May be fatal if swallowed or enters airways (Aspiration Toxicity Category 1). Causes serious eye irritation (Eye Irritation Category 2). Causes skin irritation (Skin Irritation Category 2). Keep out of reach of children.
California Prop 65: WARNING — This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer.

4.0 Troubleshooting & FAQs
What is the difference between Liquid Wax and Hybrid Wax?
Liquid Wax: Pad-applied full synthetic sealant. Contains no actual wax. Lasts up to 1 year. Requires 30-minute dry time + 6-hour cure. Apply 1–2 times per year. MUST NOT be applied to raw plastic, rubber, decals, or uncoated matte surfaces. Compatible with hand and machine application.
Hybrid Wax: Spray-on, wipe-off carnauba-infused synthetic topper. Lasts 3–6 months. No cure time. Safe for ALL surfaces including raw plastic and rubber.
Best results are achieved when used together: Liquid Wax as the base layer, Hybrid Wax as the topper after each wash. For full details, see Data Sheet — Hybrid Wax.
Why is the product so thin, runny, or watery?
The thin consistency is normal and expected. The specialized polymers that provide long-lasting durability and easy buff-off are what make the formula thinner than traditional wax products. The product does not contain unnecessary fillers or thickeners. If product separation occurs in the bottle, hold it upside down and shake vigorously to recombine. The product works identically after reshaking.
What happens if rain or moisture hits the vehicle before the 6-hour cure?
The product will still provide some protection, but longevity may be reduced. The 6-hour cure allows the sealant to fully harden and bond. If curing was interrupted by moisture, the Liquid Wax may need to be reapplied sooner than expected. Plan application timing to ensure at least 6 hours of dry conditions (e.g., apply in the evening to avoid morning dew).
What if I applied Liquid Wax over an existing wax without stripping?
The Liquid Wax will degrade at the same rate as the underlying product, significantly reducing its intended longevity. For full performance, strip both layers using a clay bar or dish soap wash and reapply Liquid Wax to bare paint.
Why does Liquid Wax need to be applied first?
Liquid Wax is a long-lasting synthetic sealant (up to 1 year). If applied over another product, it will degrade at the same rate as the underlying layer, eliminating its longevity advantage. When applied directly to bare paint first, then topped with Hybrid Wax, the Hybrid Wax will degrade first while the Liquid Wax remains intact underneath. Simply reapply Hybrid Wax as needed.
What is the full paint correction and protection workflow?
The recommended order of operations for maximum results is: (1) Wash the vehicle with dish soap and water. (2) Clay bar the entire vehicle using dish soap and water as lube. (3) Rinse thoroughly. (4) If polishing is needed, polish after clay bar and before final rinse. (5) Final rinse and dry completely. (6) Apply Liquid Wax to bare paint — allow 30-minute dry time, buff off, and cure for a minimum of 6 hours. (7) After full cure, apply Hybrid Wax as a topper. Reapply Hybrid Wax after every wash to maintain and extend the Liquid Wax base layer.
Do I need to strip a brand-new car before applying Liquid Wax?
Yes. Dealerships routinely apply waxes, sealants, and dressings to vehicles on the lot. These coatings must be removed before applying Liquid Wax, or the sealant will degrade at the same rate as the underlying dealership product. Strip using a clay bar with dish soap and water, an IPA solution, or at minimum a dish soap wash.
Can I apply Liquid Wax over existing wax from another brand?
No. Liquid Wax must be the first product applied to bare paint. Strip all existing wax, sealant, or polish before applying. The most effective removal methods are (in order): IPA (isopropyl alcohol) solution, clay bar with dish soap/water lube, or dish soap wash alone (least effective). The only product Liquid Wax can be applied over is a ceramic coating.
Can I apply Liquid Wax over an existing ceramic coating?
Yes. Liquid Wax can be applied over an existing ceramic coating. The correct layering order is: Ceramic Coating → Liquid Wax → Hybrid Wax. This is the only product that Liquid Wax can be applied over — all other existing waxes, sealants, or polishes must be stripped first.
Can I put Liquid Wax over Hybrid Wax?
No. Applying Liquid Wax over Hybrid Wax will cause the Liquid Wax to degrade at the same rate as the Hybrid Wax, defeating its purpose. Strip the Hybrid Wax first (clay bar or dish soap wash), apply Liquid Wax to bare paint, cure for 6 hours, then reapply Hybrid Wax on top.
Is Dawn dish soap safe for routine car washing?
No. Dawn is a degreaser and will strip wax, sealant, and protective coatings with every use. Use Dawn only when intentionally stripping old coatings before applying Liquid Wax. For routine washing, use a dedicated pH-neutral car wash soap that is wax-safe.
Can Liquid Wax be used with a clay bar?
Yes. The recommended workflow is: Wash → Clay Bar (using dish soap and water as lube) → Rinse → Dry → Apply Liquid Wax. If polishing, insert the polish step after clay bar and before the final rinse.
Can I apply Liquid Wax to a wet vehicle?
No. The paint must be completely dry before applying. Liquid Wax is a polymer sealant — water on the surface interferes with polymer bonding, reduces longevity, and can cause streaking or uneven curing. Dry the vehicle thoroughly before applying, and allow extra drying time around panel gaps and trim seams where moisture can hide.
How long should I wait after a fresh paint job before applying?
Wait a minimum of 30 days for the paint to fully cure before applying any sealant. The only exception is if the body shop used infrared lighting to bake the paint — consult the shop for their specific recommendation. Applying sealant too early seals the paint surface and prevents curing gases from releasing, which may cause paint defects.
Can I apply Liquid Wax with a buffer, orbital, or machine polisher?
Yes. Liquid Wax works well with an orbital machine using a finishing pad. It can also be applied by hand using the included applicator. Avoid getting product on raw plastic or rubber trim regardless of application method.
Should I apply Liquid Wax in overlapping circles or straight lines?
Overlapping circles are the recommended application method for full surface coverage. Straight-line passes are also acceptable but may leave small gaps in coverage. Apply thinly regardless of method. Avoid raw plastic, rubber, decals, and uncoated surfaces.
Should I apply in sections or the whole vehicle at once?
Apply to the entire vehicle, or at minimum large sections (1/4 to 1/2 of the vehicle at a time). Since the product requires a 30-minute wait before buffing, applying panel-by-panel is impractical and extremely time-consuming.
Does Liquid Wax need to sit for 30 minutes before buffing?
Yes. The 30-minute wait is the minimum time required for the product to properly bond to the surface and dry to a haze. In hotter climates, reduce this time slightly as the product dries faster. The longer the product sits before buffing, the better the results.
How long should I wait between coats?
A minimum of 6 hours is recommended between coats to allow full curing and bonding. Some users wait a full day for optimal results. A second coat can be applied sooner if time is limited, but longevity and performance improve with a full cure. Most vehicles only need 2 layers.
Can I drive through rain after the 6-hour cure?
Yes. After the full 6-hour cure, the sealant is fully bonded and moisture-resistant. You can safely drive in rain, go through car washes, or expose the vehicle to water without any impact on performance.
Can anything be applied over Liquid Wax?
Yes. After the 6-hour cure, any wax or sealant can be applied over Liquid Wax. CAR GUYS Hybrid Wax is the recommended topper — it was formulated to work with Liquid Wax and extends the life of the base layer. Hybrid Wax can be reapplied after every wash.
Do I need to strip Liquid Wax before a second application?
For routine reapplication (every 6–12 months), washing with dish soap and water is sufficient to give a clean surface. A full clay bar treatment is optional but provides the best results. If you have been using Hybrid Wax between Liquid Wax applications, the dish soap wash will remove the Hybrid Wax layer.
How do I remove Liquid Wax completely?
Three methods (most to least effective): (1) IPA (isopropyl alcohol) mixed with water — the most thorough method. (2) Clay bar with dish soap and water as lube. (3) Dish soap and water wash alone — the least effective but acceptable option.
How often should I reapply Liquid Wax?
Up to 1 year of protection when applied correctly. For daily drivers, reapplying every 6 months is recommended — once before winter, once before summer. Water beading typically lasts 6–8 months. Using CAR GUYS Hybrid Wax as a topper between applications extends the life and appearance of the Liquid Wax base.
How long does the protection last?
Up to 1 year of durability and protection depending on washing regimen and climate. Water beading lasts approximately 6–8 months. Applying CAR GUYS Hybrid Wax as a regular topper extends overall durability and appearance between Liquid Wax applications.
How many cars will one 8 oz bottle cover?
Approximately 3–5 full vehicle applications when applied thinly as recommended. Actual yield varies based on vehicle size and application thickness. Since Liquid Wax only needs to be applied 1–2 times per year, one bottle provides significant longevity.
Is Liquid Wax safe for single-stage paint?
Yes. Liquid Wax is safe on single-stage paint. It contains no abrasives and functions as a protective sealant only.
Is Liquid Wax safe on matte, satin, or denim paint finishes?
Safe on coated/clear-coated matte, satin, and denim finishes. Not recommended for uncoated matte surfaces — the product is designed for sealed/coated finishes only.
Is Liquid Wax safe on glass and windows?
Yes. Completely safe for glass and windows. Applying Liquid Wax to windows provides UV protection and water beading while driving.
Is Liquid Wax safe on clear bra, PPF, or vinyl wrap?
Safe on all brands of clear bra and PPF, including 3M and Xpel. Avoid contact with raw/unfinished plastic trim adjacent to the film. Maintain 1–2 inches of clearance from unfinished surfaces.
Can I use Liquid Wax on wheels or rims?
Yes. Liquid Wax can be applied to painted, clear-coated, or chromed rims for brake dust resistance and easier wheel cleaning. Apply the same way as on paint — thin, even layer, 30-minute haze, buff, then 6-hour cure. Avoid the tire sidewalls and any raw plastic wheel trim. For maximum long-term brake dust protection, a dedicated ceramic wheel coating is the gold standard, but Liquid Wax works well for most daily drivers.
Can it be used on boats, RVs, or household surfaces?
Yes. Safe for use on boats, RVs, motorcycles, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and similar hard surfaces. Avoid raw plastic and rubber on any application.
How do I remove dried white residue from plastic or rubber?
For small spots: Rub the affected area with a Pink Pencil Eraser. This is the safest and most effective method for isolated marks.
For large areas: Spray CAR GUYS Super Cleaner directly onto the trim. Agitate the surface using a toothbrush or a stiff-bristled nylon brush. These bristles are strong enough to pull the wax out of the textured grain but won't scuff the plastic like an abrasive pad. Wipe residue away with a clean Microfiber Towel.
Final Step: Always apply CAR GUYS Plastic Restorer after cleaning to deep-clean the pores and protect the trim from future staining.
How do I clean my microfiber towel or applicator?
See the Accessory Care Guide for full cleaning instructions for all CAR GUYS towels and applicators.
Why is Liquid Wax more expensive than typical waxes?
Liquid Wax is a full synthetic polymer sealant with no fillers, colors, or fragrances — you're paying for pure product. It's also formulated for longevity: one 8 oz bottle provides 3–5 full vehicle applications, and the product only needs to be applied 1–2 times per year. Measured by cost per application, Liquid Wax compares well against cheaper waxes that require reapplication every few weeks. Every CAR GUYS purchase is backed by the Zero Risk Policy — if you're not satisfied after using it, let us know and we'll make it right.
Is Liquid Wax available in a larger size than 8 oz?
No. Liquid Wax is only available in the 8 oz kit — there is no larger bottle or gallon refill. The 8 oz size is sufficient for most customers: the product goes on in a very thin layer, one bottle provides 3–5 full vehicle applications, and Liquid Wax only needs to be applied 1–2 times per year. For most customers, one bottle lasts well over a year.
Does Liquid Wax remove scratches, water spots, or oxidation?
No. This is a protective sealant with zero abrasives. It will not polish paint, remove oxidation, or fix scratches. It may temporarily hide very minor imperfections. For paint correction, use a polishing compound or clay bar before applying Liquid Wax. For removal guidance on scratches and water spots, see the General Detailing Knowledge Base.
Can it fix clear-coat damage?
No. Clear-coat peeling, flaking, or failure requires professional repair (sanding, reapplication of clear coat by a qualified body shop). No wax or sealant product can repair damaged clear coat.
